Winery GLATZER, Göttlesbrunn
Walter Glatzer is one of the qualitative engines of the Carnuntum wine region. His red wines, above all the Blaue Zweigelt “Dornenvogel”, are among the products with the best price-performance ratio in Austria. From the lead variety Zweigelt Walter Glatzer also fills a rather young to drink Riedencuvée and a Rubin Carnuntum.
Blaufränkisch, which is also a tradition in Carnuntum, is usually bottled as a normal wine and as a reserve, which matures for about a year in used barriques. The elegant St. Laurent from Altenberg, first pressed in 2002, is in a class of its own.
With the 2008 vintage, Glatzer took victory in the varietal group at the annual Falstaff red wine awards. But the dynamic winemaker also shows his oenological talent with the Pinot Blanc grape, which is cultivated as a traditional variety in Göttlesbrunn, and most recently also with Sauvignon Blanc. The red top cuvée, which is naturally aged in new wood, bears the old name of the wine village: “Gotinsprun”.
For the past year, the program has been rounded out by a Blaufränkisch from the Bernreiser vineyard, which is characterized by intense spiciness and minerality. Walter Glatzer is one of the best winemakers in the region. Reliability is a special characteristic of the house.
