Bio-Winery Anita & Hans NITTNAUS, Gols

The Nittnaus winery is located in Gols on the east side of Lake Neusiedl between the higher Platte in the north and the flat Heideboden in the south and has always been closely associated with viticulture. The estate, built in 1927, was taken over and modernized by Anita and Hans “John” Nittnaus in 1985. The 36 hectares of vineyards are divided between the northern edge of the lake from Mönchhof to Purbach, with a focus on Gols and Jois. 90 percent of the area is planted with red wine varieties (Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot, St. Laurent) and just under 10 percent with white wine varieties (Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, Furmint). An important principle on the farm is: “We don’t ‘make’ the wine, but we try to support it in its development.”

For this reason, the winery also switched to biodynamic farming methods in 2006. At the top of the range are two cuvées: the powerful “Comondor” (Merlot/Blaufränkisch) and the elegant “Pannobile” (Zweigelt/Blaufränkisch). For some years now, the top Blaufränkisch from the Leithaberg – the “Jungenberg” (formerly “Tannenberg”) and the “Gritschenberg” – have also been important flagships.

Great successes and first places were achieved on the occasion of the Falstaff red wine awards with “Comondor” 2006, “Pannobile” 2010 as well as Leithaberg DAC Ried Joiser Gritschenberg 2015, 2016 and 2017 and Leithaberg DAC Ried Joiser Jungenberg 2017. The increasingly important Blaufränkisch range is complemented by a somewhat lighter Blaufränkisch “Kalk & Schiefer”. The medium-priced soft and fruity red wine cuvée “Heideboden” is also particularly important in the portfolio. The white wine range is completed by Chardonnay from the Joiser Leithaberg sites Freudshofer and Bergschmallister.
